Residential Program
Research - Research has shown that the most
effective programs, and those that yield long-term results, are those
programs that are at least one year in length. A study supported by the
National Institute on Drug Abuse says that ‘Remaining in treatment for
an extended time has beneficial outcomes for people in residential or
outpatient drug treatment (or recovery) programs (Zhang, 2003).’
In the United States it is estimated that nearly five million people
over the age of 12 are in need of substance abuse recovery or substance
abuse treatment. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health
Services Administration (SAMHSA) hundreds of thousands of these
individuals each year do not have access to programs that are effective
or affordable (SAMSHA, 2000).
Teen Challenge - The Teen Challenge residential
substance abuse recovery facilities and programs are modeled on best
practices and around methods that have proven to produce long-term
results (see below). The Teen Challenge recovery program is one year in
length. The structure of the residential program is one of several
reasons why Teen Challenge has been, and continues to be, so successful.
